Best times to visit are:
June to August: This is the tail-end of the long rainy season and the weather is at its best at this time of year -- bearable during the day and cool in the evening. However, this is not necessarily the best time of year for safaris, as water is plentiful in the parks and animals are not forced to congregate in a few locations to rehydrate, as they do in the middle of the dry season right after Christmas.
January to February: This is the best time to visit the Serengeti. It is usually at this time that huge herds of Wildebeest, Zebra and Buffalo migrate to better grazing areas. At this period you could observe some of the 1.5 million Wildebeest that inhabit the Serengeti undertake their epic journey. Be advised this is most likely the hottest time of year in Tanzania, when even the locals complain about the heat. You've been warned!

Made famous by the legendary researcher Jane Goodall, the chimpanzee experience is a great addition to a Tanzania safari holiday. Wildlife and wilderness aside, Tanzania also boasts some of the most romantic and unspoilt tropical beaches in Africa. If you're new to Tanzania, the following might give you a few pointers
as to how to get the best from a
Tanzania
Safari. If quantity of game is your main objective, then the north of the country - Serengeti and surrounding areas, Ngorongoro, Tarangire and surrounding areas and Lake Manyara are a good starting point. However, we'd caution that quantity of game - even in something like the wildebeest migration - is rarely as important as quality of game. Being able to appreciate the animals in your own way and without the company of endless traffic, is of fundamental importance. Many of the best known parts of the north are crawling with tourists, so it pays to be selective about which bits you visit and when. As an example, we'd suggest that you avoid the busy Central Serengeti where ever possible and look at visiting the quieter areas such as the northern Serengeti between August and October. |
|||||||
|
Southern Tanzania is lesser known than the north with a very different balance of species; different wildebeest in the Selous for example and no wildebeest, but vast herds of buffalo in Ruaha. There are also many more southern African birds, animals and plants. In game viewing terms, the south is best between June and October, and Ruaha in particular can provide exceptional dry season game viewing, while Selous (which combines well with Ruaha) offers a great diversity of activities from walks to boat safaris, fly camping and, of course, game drives. |

Western Tanzania
is far less visited than the north
Katavi National Park and Mahale Mountains. Put simply, this is where you head if you want to experience what Tanzania was like 20 years ago. Because of the distances, and therefore cost, involved (Mahale is 520 miles from Arusha} it's visited by few people, but offers a quality of experience that is hard to find anywhere else. |

No fencing, here travelers are guests so they can't make demands in the Animal Kingdom, though there thorn bushes now and then set up in Maasai Boma Style as make believe fencing:0)
